The IFRS Foundation Trustees have today announced that Linda Mezon-Hutter has been appointed as the Vice-Chair of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB).

Ms Mezon-Hutter has been a member of the IASB since September 2022, joining from the Canadian Accounting Standards Board (AcSB) where she had served as Chair since 2013. In that role, she provided leadership to the AcSB in achieving its mission. The AcSB made changes to enhance its effectiveness and efficiency during her time as Chair.

At that time, she also worked closely with the IASB and standard-setters around the world as the Canadian representative on the Accounting Standards Advisory Forum. She also participated in the IFRS Foundation’s annual World Standard-setters Conference and the International Forum of Accounting Standard Setters.

Before serving as Chair of the AcSB, Ms Mezon-Hutter gained extensive executive experience working in senior financial positions in various industries, most recently as the Chief Accountant at the Royal Bank of Canada. At the bank she was responsible for the interpretation and application of IFRS Accounting Standards and US GAAP.

Erkki Liikanen, Chair of the IFRS Foundation Trustees, said:

Linda brings a wealth of experience and is highly regarded in the accounting standard-setting community. Having served as chair of the Canadian accounting standard-setter for nine years, she has demonstrated strong leadership skills which are also vital for her new role on the IASB.

Andreas Barckow, Chair of the IASB, said:

Having served as Chair of the Canadian Board for nine years, Linda enters her new role in full awareness of the leadership tasks ahead of her. I am happy to see the vacancy filled again and am very much looking forward to working closely with Linda in having our Board deliver our agenda.

Linda Mezon-Hutter said:

I am delighted to be taking on this role at such a pivotal time—with so much important work for the IASB to accomplish and at the same time focusing on building the appropriate connectivity with the ISSB. I look forward to supporting Andreas and the Board while continuing to work with the broad network of our stakeholders who contribute so much to the Foundation’s work.

Ms Mezon-Hutter will become Vice-Chair on 1 January 2023.
